Posts and such

Well first off i would guess i should appologise to the nice community out there, waiting patiently for this game, as i haven’t been keeping up with posts for the latest news my end.

So what’s new? Well as you have heard, we have now lost our modeler, which since nothing came of him anyway, wasn’t the biggest loss. This means the task is left to me and Earl, which as we both have some 3D experience should mean something half decent will be made :)

The maps? well they are coming along well and we should soon have enough for a good alpha test i guess.

Fingers crossed. it wont be long! Of corse not all the models and maps and scripts we want for the final release will be ready, but a good start would be nice to release to you guys.

Action Zones

The other day I was talking about drinking for streams and lakes from the waters edge or whilst standing in it. I have conducted several tests to confirm we can do what we plan to do. The results have confirmed that Action Zones will be implemented into the system.

So what are action zones?

Well they are basically triggers. Triggers from a NWN2 engine point of view. We have triggers painted on the the floor of the game which initiate a large number of functions. They are not visible to the player but a few of them will be key to the players survival. So the most important one would be the Water Action Zone.

The Water Action Zone is activated when a player is standing on the bank of a river, or in it. When they do this a GUI element will pop up giving them a few possible actions. One action will be to drink from the river. Another action would be fishing. If they player possesses a suitable fishing tool then the option will be available. We still need to find the best location for the Action Zone GUI elements to show up but they will most likely be in the middle of the screen above your character.

Another use for these zones are for the game to decide whether certain things can be done. Things such as farming and construction. There are areas where it would be ridiculous to build a house. On the edge of a cliff perhaps. Or planting your crop on the beach. Madness. Action Zones put a stop to it. Screenshots coming next week. Video of some of the finished features will be coming soon.

Forest and Genesis Tests

On Tuesday I received the Forest and camp site maps from Relentless. I didn’t get a chance to look at them until last night but I can say from a terrain point of view they look good. The problem is they are empty and contain no plants, rocks, trees or animals.

I did a few tests and seeded them for a run on GENESIS. Unfortunately due to an area tag issue there were problems when re-loading the game. Both the beach and the forest were sharing tree data. I have sorted out the problem and informed Relentless but I need to re-seed both areas and let them grow from scratch.

I did manage to grab two screenshots. So here they are:-

Waterfalls

Now that production is underway, with every expectation to make the module realistic, yet mythical. With depth but not harming any of the entertainment value! One thing springs to mind, why is it that waterfalls are not included in the development package?
I guess Obsidion planned to make the worlds flat? they dont allow for different levels of water nor do they allow water to fall down a hill as it naturally would. So i seek the next best thing, which would look nice in the world.

But it doesnt

Who’s doing what?

I thought I would post an update since things have been quiet here recently.

Over the last week I have been organising development to get things back on track. I am going to go through what we are each working on and provide an ETA.

Relentless – Forest Map
- ETA Wednesday evening (today).
We need the maps done for the website. Relentless has told me the forest is almost done and will hopefully be ready this evening.

Kaleotter – 3D Plant Models
- ETA Wednesday evening (today).
Kale will hopefully become our primary modeller. He is a long time friend of myself and Relentless and we went through school together. He is doing his first test model for us and hopes to finish it tonight for testing. If its of the standard required then he will be doing many more for us. It will be CORN.

Earl (ME!) - Dev Blog Website
- ETA Wednesday evening (today).
Wow there is alot expected today. Although this one is almost done and has been since last week.

Earl – Main Website and Dev Trackers
- ETA Friday 7th.
This is provided I get some thing from Kale and Relentless. I need something to work with to finish the website. Dev trackers will be online first I suspect.
